A brand deeply rooted in French history
- In 1720 the population of Marseille had been decimated by the plague… … and so the craftsman Antoine Maille invented "the Vinegar of the Four Thieves“. Its antiseptic properties saved the lives of many people!
- 1747 Antoine Claude Maille (son of Antoine) founded the famous Maille brand and the House of Maille, a vinegar and mustard shop, rue Saint André des Arts in Paris
Did you know?
- Maille was named vinegar maker and distiller to their Imperial Majesties of Austria & Hungary in 1760 and to the King of France in 1769, he became the official supplier of Empress Catherin II of Russia in 1771.
- There are 2 Maille boutiques in France today: The original one located in Dijon opened in 1845 whilst, the Paris Boutique followed in 1996.
